NONGPOH: Minister Roshan Warjri on Tuesday stressed on the need for strengthening the cooperative movement for creating employment in the state.
“Unemployment is one of the crises the state as well as the country is facing today. Therefore, it is imperative to promote and strengthen the movement to enable unemployed youth to make their livelihood more institutionalised,” said the minister in charge of the Cooperation Department at a function here organised to mark the 64th All India Cooperative Week Celebration.
Warjri said though there are many cooperative societies in the state, some are dysfunctional. “A strong and capable leadership is needed to have a lasting cooperative society with a joint accountability and joint responsibility,” she added.
The programme is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Warjri lauded the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank for its untiring efforts in extending services by setting up branches, particularly in far-flung areas to provide financial aid to farmers and the poor.
