ASWA serves 5-day deadline to Tura MP
TURA: The A’chik Students’ Welfare Association (ASWA) has expressed disappointment over the inaction of Tura MP, Conrad K Sangma on the establishment of the Garo Hills University, a memorandum concerning which was submitted by the association recently. The association while alleging that no letter has been dispatched to the concerned ministers or the demand raised in the Parliament, gave Sangma an ultimatum of five days to act in support of the demand failing which, it warned that it would protest.

Former MLA clarifies on FIR
SHILLONG: Former MLA of Mawthengkut, Francis PR Sangma has informed that the matter between him and two other persons Bulbul Sangma and Silman Sangma, who had alleged misuse of money by the former, has been amicably settled before the Court earlier this year. In a statement, Sangma informed that an FIR against him was filed by Bulbul Sangma and Silman Sangma before Shallang Police Station interalia where it was alleged that he has misused some Mahari money after leasing the Kullang Coal field to DS Company. He said that the misunderstanding was due to miscommunication among the Maharis. However, after clarifying the same, the FIR was withdrawn and the matter was amicably resolved.

Shullai unveils foundation stone for renovation work
SHILLONG: MLA Sanbor Shullai unveiled the foundation stone for renovation work including fitting of floor tiles carpetting, etc, at 29th Cantonment, Gurudwara, on November 11. The MCIC organised the inauguration function for the renovation work which was sanctioned under the SUWP Scheme 2016-17 for an amount of Rs. 2 lakh, planned, initiated and recommended by Shullai. Speaking at the function, Anthony Marwein, secretary MCIC, appreciated and lauded the initiative and sustained efforts of the MLA, for bringing various developmental schemes especially the Additional Water Supply Scheme of the areas which has fulfilled the long aspiration of the people of the 19th South Shillong Constituency in general. The inauguration function was also attended by and various members of Dorbar Dongs, local NGO’s and prominent residents of the area

Children’s Day celebrated
SHILLONG: Children’s Day was celebrated in various parts of the city on Tuesday. A felicitation programme of child friendly Traffic Police and Children’s Day programme was organised by Child line Shillong, Bosco Integrated Development Society at Sadar Police Station on November 14. The programme was supported by the police department, East Khasi Hills and an individual sponsor. There were 15 child friendly Traffic Police who were felicitated by CHILDLINE Shillong in the presence of SP East Khasi Hills, Davis Marak. Children handed over mementoes to the 15 child friendly traffic police. During the programme, Marak spoke about Special Juvenile Police Units and Child Welfare Police Officers to address child rights violation in the district. Rilang Children’s Home also organised a programme to celebrate the occasion. Bringing the awareness of the worth of the children, the staff performed different activities to make the children happy and remind them about their rights . The chief guest Ricky Shullai, members of the Child Welfare Committee, East Khasi Hills Dr. S. Lyngdoh and Y Rynjah graced the event among ohers. All the children were given gifts.

Digital Seva Portal to provide e-services in East Garo Hills
WILLIAMNAGAR:  The Common Services Centre (CSC) of e-Governance Services India Limited is now available in East Garo Hills. The Deputy Commissioner of the district, Ram Kumar, informed that the CSC provides many services to ease the lives of people without needing to move to different places for different services through a single portal called the ‘Digital Seva Portal’, the mode of transaction of which is both on-line and off-line The services being provided include E-District Services for issuing of ST and SC certificates, income and permanent residence certificates and certificates for armed, para-military and police forces, mobile and DTH recharges, etc. The Travel Services will provide air and railway ticketing facilities and the Government to Citizen (G2C) services will provide PAN Card, passport, scholarship, etc. The Health Services of the portal will provide tele-medicine, homeo, etc. The Electricity Bill Payment Services will provide state electricity bill payment and JNV admission registration while PMGDISHA and NIOS registration are available in Education Services of the portal. The Banking Services provides digipay, Bank Mitra Registration, etc and the Income Tax Services and GST registration and filing are also included in the portal

IIM Shillong selected to host Hult Prize on campus
SHILLONG: The Indian Institute of Management, Shillong has been selected to host the local edition of Hult Prize the world’s largest student competition for the creation of new social businesses. The annual Hult Prize awards one million dollars in start-up funding to the team of students that develops the most radical and breakthrough idea to solve one of the world’s toughest social challenges. In partnership with the United Nations, the Hult Prize is hosting college and university events around the world in search of the next game-changing start-up Kshitij Arora, Hult Prize campus director at IIM Shillong, will be leading the initiative, and is confident that his peers on campus have as good a chance as anyone to go all the way. “It’s not every day that you have an opportunity to change the world. This is our chance to show the world that our institution is dedicated to Impact.!”, Arora said. The winner of the intra-campus event will automatically advance to compete in one of fifteen regional finals happening around the world next March. One winning team from each host city will then move onto a summer business incubator, where participants will receive mentorship, advisory and strategic planning as they create prototypes and set-up to launch their new social business. The final round will be hosted in September 2018.

Assamese LP School to hold centenary celebrations
SHILLONG: Assamese Lower Primary School, one of the oldest educational institutes, established in 1918 will complete 100 years of its existence by 2018. To commemorate the centenary celebration of the school, a one day long programme has been chalked out which will be held at Assam Club premises on December 3. The programme includes seminar on “present education scenario” where BKD Dev Sarma, noted educationist and litterateur, will take part as an invited speaker. Former MLA and Minister, Education, Manas Choudhury is expected to join the celebration as chief guest. All ex students are invited to attend the function.

De-stress programme for BSF jawans at Umpling
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Frontier organised a programme in co-ordination with Security Services Wing, Mount Abu (A wing of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya) to fight monotony and pressure in the routines of BSF Jawans. The objectives of this programme is to strengthen sentinels of the border internally to enhance their efficiency and help them to take quick and correct steps in challenging situations at International Border as a First Line of Defence. Dr. Sabu A Joseph, DIG/PSO (officiating inspector general) and other instructors/faculties of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya delivered lectures on eradication of stress and enhancing inner strength. Various useful ‘Asanas’ were performed during one hour schedule programme at early morning at Gym Hall, Umpling campus by the participants in supervision of instructors of Security Services Wing, Mount Abu.

Travel & Tourism Bazar begins
SHILLONG: The winter travel exhibition of Travel and Tourism Bazar kicked off in the city on Wednesday. The three-day event was inaugurated by Information and Technology Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.  Speaking on the occasion, the minister hoped that the festival would go a long way in promoting tourism in Meghalaya and in other northeastern states. The festival is seeing the participation of tourism departments of major state like Gujarat, Telangana, Rajasthan and others. The participating states are exhibiting their tourism products at the fair.
