SHILLONG: National People’s Party (NPP) has made it clear that the it would select its Chief Minister from the region where it gets the most number of seats in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Speaking to media persons after felicitating Jan Tynsong and Pyniaid Sing Syiem who officially joined the party, Party State President, WR Kharlukhi said that the formula of electing the Chief Minister had already been discussed in the party and all members and candidates had been informed about the formula. Kharlukhi, however, added that it was the MLAs who will decide who should be the Chief Minister.
Stating that the party is soon coming out with its Mission document which is already completed, Kharlukhi also denied the allegations that many of the MLAs and Ministers were joining the party for greener pastures.
“They are attracted to party after looking at the leadership and performance of our party as NPP is a new party with new ideas,” he said.
According to Kharlukhi, though the party is a part of the NDA at the Centre, the party would go all alone in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
The party leader also asserted that the second list of the party’s candidates would be declared in towards end of November which would be followed by the third list. The party is also hoping to emerge as the single largest party in the elections.
On the other hand, Sohryngkham MDC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem who joined the party said that people would see his work which he has done in the capacity of an MDC in the constituency.
Jan Tynsong MDC from Langkyrdem – Laitkroh Constituency who also joined the party said that he decided to join the party after Congress dissolved Pynurusla block Congress in September this year.
