AICC lauds church for NE’s unity in diversity

SHILLONG: Congress’s Rejaul Karim Laskar said on Friday the North East is a melting pot of different races, culture and faith and lauded the Church for maintaining social harmony.
The All India Congress Committee (Minority Department) observer for Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram who was in the city said the diversity “is the beauty of the region”. Laskar visited the Shillong Baptist Church and called on Rev. LM Vanchhawng, the Pastor, at his residence. He described the meeting as “a courtesy call” and lauded the role of the Baptist Church in strengthening peace and social harmony in Meghalaya.
Laskar also visited the Cathedral Mary Help of Christians. Earlier in the day, Laskar met Chief Minister Mukul Sangma at his residence. Both the leaders discussed poll campaign strategy and the role of the Minority Department. The observer left for Guwahati in the evening.
