SHILLONG: The Nong Iew Association, or the shopkeepers’ union, at Iewduh has alleged that one of the myntris of the Hima Mylliem is harassing traders and hawkers by demanding money.
The union told reporters that Myntri Midnight Kharlukhi extracted Rs 200-300 from each trader for the annual ritual conducted by the Hima Mylliem on November 12. It also demanded that Kharlukhi be removed from Iewduh related affairs.
In a meeting with the myntri and others on Friday where assistant general secretary Mark Warjiri said, “We don’t oppose the collection of money as it is usually in the form of donation and the amount of money was not imposed on people. But this time, it was not donation at all.”Warjiri informed that it was decided in the meeting that Kharlukhi was “unfit” for collecting money. The myntri had indicated that he would not take up the task anymore.
