SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has asked the state government to review its decision to retain Warsan Lyngdoh area in South West Khasi Hills instead of West Khasi Hills as demanded by the people during the public hearing.
During the hearing of the case, the Division Bench comprising chief justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice SR Sen ordered that the decision taken by the Government does not stand perfectly in accordance with the views expressed by the people in the public hearing.
“It appears just and proper that the Government may revisit its decision, if appropriate representation is made in that regard”, the order said.
According to the court, if any representation is made by the petitioner or by any other persons for reconsideration of the order of the government with all the relevant facts and grounds, the Home (Police) department should take a decision afresh in the matter in accordance with law, which may include reconvening of public hearing.
The court said that the government should invite such representations by a specific advertisement within two weeks from Friday while fixing a final date for receiving the representation.
“After receiving the representations, the government shall take appropriate decision in the matter within four weeks and shall thereafter, proceeded in accordance with law”, the court said.
