SHILLONG: The State Cabinet has decided to develop three renewable power projects in Byrnihat, Mendipathar and Ampati to tide over the crisis.
The new technology developed by M/S Renew Jewel Pvt Company is expected to transform the whole energy scenario in the state. Land requirement will be less too.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the developer would not require support or subsidy from the government to develop the projects of 24 MW each and power tariff will be around Rs 3.50.
The Cabinet cancelled the agreement for four projects – the Umduna (57 MW) and the Umjaut (69 MW) hydro power projects, which were to be developed by ETA Star Infrastructure Ltd, Mumbai; the Narringre thermal project in East Garo Hills (300 MW) and the Captive Thermal Power project at Shallang in West Khasi Hills (60 MW).
Sangma said the government has also decided to hand over 15 smaller projects to the state-owned Meghalaya Power General Corporation Limited and a few others will be taken up by the government.
