NEIGRIHMS hosts annual conference on Cytology
SHILLONG: The Department of Pathology, NEIGRIHMS in association with the North East Regional Chapter of Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists hosted the 47th Annual conference of Cytology ‘CYTOCON’ from November 10 to 13. The conference was attended by 487 delegates from all over the country. International faculties from Singapore, Taiwan and Kuwait also attended the Conference. The event was inaugurated by Minister of Health and Family Welfare Roshan Warjri.Speaking in the occasion, Warjiri described the Cytology as an important branch of pathology to help in early Diagnosis of Malignant Diseases. She shared some personal experiences related to Medical field and informed how important it is to diagnose some Diseases at early stages. There were multiple vibrant scientific sessions in the field of Cytology by the eminent Doctors of India as well as by the international faculties.
‘Thatched palace’ goof irks Hima Khyrim
SHILLONG: The leaders of Hima Khyrim have reacted sharply after a Class III textbook depicted the picture of the thatched palace (Ing Sad) of the Chief of Hima Khyrim as a thatched hut (Ingtrep).The leaders have demanded that the Meghalaya Board of School Education and the authorities concerned immediately remove the picture and the title of Ingtrep.Olet Kharsahnoh, sordar of Jongksha, said the matter has brought disgrace to the thatched palace, which is the residence of the Chief.
Applicants in dilemma over ICAR job
SHILLONG: Applicants for the post of lower division clerks in ICAR, Umiam, are in a dilemma as they could not register their applications for the interview.The applicants alleged that due to the blocking of the website on November 14 and 15, they could not register their applications.Moreover, though the letters were sent to applicants on October 17, they reached the applicants only on November 7 with a deadline for the online registration on November 15. However, since the server was not working, the applicants were helpless.The applicants said when some of them contacted ICAR, they were asked to go to the ICAR office.
Overcharging
SHILLONG: With no price monitoring system, overcharging by vendors is rampant in the city. A case in point is the complaint of a consumer who purchased two bottles of whisky. The consumer said while the MRP print rate is Rs 200 per bottle, a vendor charged Rs 220 and a bill in this regard was also given to the consumer. The consumer said that in the past too, he had faced similar situation. Besides liquor, there are instances of shopkeepers overcharging consumers when they purchase other commodities. When contacted, an official said that consumers can lodge complaints with departments concerned.
