SHILLONG: A one-day workshop by the Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) was organised in the city on Saturday for awareness on central agriculture schemes and policies and related research and training.
Dr RG Laha, Head of Division, ICAR, said such a workshop is the need of the hour because many people were not yet aware of the schemes. He pointed out that farmers would benefit from such workshops.
John Thabah, Editor of Highland Post, noted that such programmes will prevent rural to urban migration. He also elaborated on the need for media action in raising awareness.
Director of DFP Shillong Dr Engam Pame clarified that DFP is mandated to carry inter-personal communication and reach media shadow areas.
Senior scientists of ICAR Umiam Dr Pankaj Kumar Sinha and Dr Bagish Kumar spoke during the technical session.
