Legal aid awareness held

SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) on Saturday organised a programme at Mawngap market to create awareness on domestic violence and free legal aid services.
A. Shanpru, attached sub-inspector, Sohiong Outpost, spoke about the POCSO Act, domestic violence and victims’ rights and their protection.
With the help of PLV and legal aid counsel they presented a street play on crimes against children, especially the POCSO Act and the Juvenile Justice Act and the support available with the government to the victim such as victim compensation scheme, counselling, shelter, child marriage, etc.
The para legal volunteers of Lady Keane College presented a street play on the theme enlightening everyone about the objective of DSLA and the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority.
It also highlighted the role of para-legal volunteers.
E Kharumnuid, chairman of the DLSA, was also present.
