NEHU ex-deputy registrar passes away

SHILLONG: Former deputy registrar of NEHU Dr Emmanuel P Philemon passed away on Sunday. He was 75.
The funeral will be held at All Saints’ Cemetery, Bishnupur, at 2 pm on Tuesday.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two grandchildren.
Philemon, who was a resident of Lummawbah in Upper Shillong, was an educationist and writer who also contributed to several tourism initiatives and taught in several institutes.
He received lifetime achievement award in 1998 from United Writers Association, Chennai, for his creative writings. He was a life member of several academic and administrative societies. Philemon was an academic counsellor on tourism studies at IGNOU, Shillong Regional Center, from 1994 to 2000.
He authored seven books on tourism related subjects, one on management studies and five on learning Hindi from Classes 1 to V.. His well-known works include Cherrapunjee, The Arena of Rain, and a history and guide to Sohra and Shillong.
