SHILLONG: West Garo Hills police have initiated a fresh investigation into the death of a 13-year-old girl after the postmortem report revealed that her death was caused by strangulation and not self-immolation.
The police had on August 31 this year received a report that Sajeda Begum had committed suicide by burning herself in Phulbari in West Garo Hills. The requisite formalities were observed subsequently and the cadaver sent for post mortem examination.
On September 8, her father Samsul Haque had lodged a complaint that Sajeda died due to burn injuries. However, the post mortem report on November 14 stated that the cause of her death was due to strangulation.
Police while taking a suo moto cognisance of the post mortem report has initiated a fresh investigation into the matter.
