SHILLONG: The new Umsning bye-pass which is an integral part of Guwahati-Shillong expressway is likely to be opened for traffic in February next year.

Officials from NHAI informed that the road would be completed soon but it will be opened for traffic only after safety audit.

According to officials, the road is almost completed except a 560-meter stretch besides construction work for a bridge and vehicular under pass is under progress.

The work along the new Umsning bye-pass was delayed due to a prolonged rainy season, officials said.

Once the Umsning bye-pass is completed, the time taken for traveling between Guwahati and Shillong will further reduce.

Meanwhile, the overlay work along the existing Umsning road is 50 per cent completed and it will be completed soon as per the direction of the High Court of Meghalaya.
