SHILLONG: The central election committee of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has announced the names of 11 candidates, including seven MDCs in its first list that was released on Thursday.
In Nartiang, PDF has fielded Draison Kharshiing against MLA Sniawbhalang Dhar, who is expected to join the National People’s Party (NPP).
In West and South West Khasi Hills, the party has named Hadrian Lyngdoh from Mawkyrwat, Good Leaderson Nongsiej from Nongstoin and Morningstar Mawsor from Mawshynrut.
All the three are sitting MDCs of KHADC.
While Hadrian will face veteran politician Rowell Lyngdoh, who is also set to join NPP, Good Leaderson and Morningstar will face HSPDP’s seasoned politicians D. Jyndiang (MLA) and Witting Mawsor, respectively.
In East Khasi Hills, PDF has pitched Latiplang Kharkongor, MDC from Nongthymmai who will face UDP MLA Jemino Mawthoh. The party’s candidate from Mawkynrew, MDC Banteidor Lyngdoh, will face MLA Remington Pyngrope.
Other candidates from East Khasi Hills are MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri (Pynursla), Hamletson Dohling (Mylliem) and Air Marshall Diengngan (Ranikor).
Kharpuri will face disgruntled Congress MLA Prestone Tynsong while both Dohling and Diengngan will face Congress MLAs Ronnie Lyngdoh and Martin Danggo.
In Ri Bhoi, PDF has put up MDC James Sylliang for Mawhati seat and Jason Mawlong from Umsning. The latter will face Congress’s Celestine Lyngdoh.
According to PDF, the objective of the party is to establish a better today for a secure future.
PDF says that it will secure protection of indigenous tribal heritage and systems consisting of prevailing customs, traditions, traditional systems of governance, food, land, environment, sustainable use of forest products and minerals among others.
