Cattle worth Rs 45 lakh seized in WJH

JOWAI: West Jaintia Hills police seized 30 cattle in Amlarem, which were being smuggled to Bangladesh via Muktapur village, and arrested five persons in this connection.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when a truck bearing Assam registration number covered with tarpaulin was transporting cattle to be smuggled to Bangladesh. The police intercepted the truck at Syndai-Muktapur road close to the border and detained the vehicle.
The truck was loaded with 30 cattle amounting to around Rs 45 lakh.
The arrested persons have been identified as Md Mukit Laskar, Qif Uddin, Mahidul Islam, Bilal Ahmed (all four from Assam) and Embor Lakachiang of Dawki village.
