State youth bag golds at Jeet Kune Do meet at Pattaya

SHILLONG: Two youth have brought laurels for the state by bagging a gold medal each in the Asia Gold Cup Jeet Kune Do championship at Pattaya Sports Complex, Thailand held from November 25-27.

The promising players are Sanbor Lyngdoh Nongpiur and Ferdinand Suchiang who have won in the below-45 kg light contact category and 75 kg full contact category respectively.

Nongpiur is a student of Class XI Arts, BSF Higher Secondary School in Umpling, and the son of Anita Lyngdoh Nongpiur and Ashok Kharkongor of Laban, Bishnupur while Suchiang, who is employed at the Home Guards Department, Mawdiangdiang, is a resident of Jowai.

It is the second time for Suchiang to bring home a gold medal.

The duo would arrive in Shillong on December 3 and the people of the state are expected to give them a hero’s welcome.

Nongpiur and Suchiang who represent the Meghalaya Jeet Kune-Do Association (MJKA), have also been awarded medals at the North East and National Jeet Kune Do Championship.
