5 killed in EJH as truck hits passenger car

JOWAI: Five persons, including women and children, were killed in a road mishap near Um Tyr-a Weighbridge in East Jaintia Hills on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place around 10am when their vehicle, which was heading to Khliehriat from Lumshnong area, collided with a truck. Eye witnesses said the truck coming from the opposite direction hit the small car on the wrong side of the road.
The victims were identified as Dingi Nampui, Lalshansuk Hmar (11) and R Hmar (50) from Khongoi village in Lumshnong area, and Shinemeki Lamare (17) of Chiehruphi. Another woman is yet to be identified.
“We saw liquor and ganja inside the trucks,” said one of the witnesses. The truck loaded with chips was on the way to Barak Valley in Assam.
The bodies were taken to Khliehriat CHC for postmortem.
Sources also informed that the car, without registration number, was plying as passenger vehicle. There were eight passengers inside the car. Three occupants, including the driver, were admitted in ICU in critical condition.
