MAWKYRWAT: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has named former MDC Enbin K Raswai as its candidate from Mawkyrwat constituency in South West Khasi Hills during a meeting on Wednesday.
Raswai is a former HSPDP member.
KHNAM president Pyndap Saibon said the party is happy to get a leader like Raswai, who have strong principles.
Lashing out at the government for not being able to come out with an agriculture or education policy, Saibon said bringing of developmental activities, proper healthcare and educational institutions in all district headquarters will be the main objective of the party.
He urged the people of the constituency to give KHNAM a chance through Raswai and see the difference in five years.
Meanwhile, KHNAM working president and Jaiaw MDC Adelbert Nongrum said for more than 45 years, successive governments have failed to frame laws to protect the Hynniewtrep community.
“For this we cannot blame the state government or district council, but we have to blame ourselves because some of us blindly love the party and elect the legislator without examining, some follow their family members and some choose the candidates based on religion,” he said.
Raswai criticised the present HSPDP leaders saying the present-day party is different from the party which was led by Hoping Stone Lyngdoh.
“Since the joining of the present leaders, including president Ardent M Basaiawmoit, the party has changed in which they have kicked us (old members) out. The same thing happened here in Mawkyrwat, some leaders came to us and offered support to strengthen the party but they have hidden agenda to kick us out,” Raswai said.
Meanwhile, KHNAM also confirmed the appointment of office bearers which include MG Marwein as president, and Skoland Lyngdoh, Alfred Lyngdoh and Yalman Marngar as vice presidents.
