SHILLONG: The state government is yet to constitute the Meghalaya Lokayukta after the retired Judge of the Gauhati High Court, who was chosen as the chairman of the panel, did not take up the offer.
An official source said after the refusal of the retired judge, the selection committee is yet to finalise the names. The source added that though the government notified the Act, till the formation of Lokayukta with chairman and four members, the Act cannot be made operational.
In this context, the official added that the declaration of assets by bureaucrats under the Lokayukta clause as demanded by pressure groups will depend on the actual formation of the body.
