BSF seizes over 10k cattle in 2017

SHILLONG: The attempts of cattle smuggling by smugglers from India to Bangladesh again foiled by the troops of Border Security Force.
In a statement issued on Saturday, it was informed that the smugglers on both the sides on Indo-Bangladesh border are continuously in touch and keep tracking the movement of BSF patrols. However, troops of BSF continue to put dents in their misdeeds.
The BSF troops deployed at Nayabazar, East Khasi Hills district, acting on a tipoff, launched special operation and laid a trap while some smugglers along with cattle were proceeding towards Bangladesh. The smugglers managed to abscond from the spot but the troops cordoned the suspected area and seized 26 cattle.
Similarly, in two more incidents, the BSF troops deployed at Laijury, in East Jaintia Hills and Kasinda in East Khasi Hills, district of Meghalaya seized 15 more cattle while being smuggled.
It also said that this year the sentinels of border has caught 10,169 cattle at border before it could be smuggled to Bangladesh.
All the seized items handed over to concerned department for further legal action, the statement added.
