Assam govt to launch special drive to recruit differently abled

Guwahati: Assam government to launch a special recruitment drive to fill up the backlog vacancies meant for differently abled persons in various department in the state.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed the state’s Social Welfare Department to finalize the selection criterion for filling up all backlog vacancies of differently abled persons in various government departments within December 20.

Sonowal informed that all backlog vacancies for differently abled would be filled up through a special recruitment drive. He directed the Social Welfare Department to draw up a recruitment framework in consultation with the associations of differently abled.

Presently, there are around 4419 post lying vacant under physically handicap (PH) category in different government departments and the number may go up as assessment of such posts in  few other departments is still going on.

The Chief Minister further asked the social welfare department to prepare a calendar for all the other government departments outlining the selection process for simultaneous recruitment all throughout the state.

Meanwhile, representatives of  various associations of disabled have requested the Chief Minister to take steps for construction of a rest house for differently abled persons in Guwahati, which Sonowal readily agreed  to and directed the Social Welfare Department to identify suitable land for the same.
