SHILLONG: Former Khun Hynnewtrap National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MLA, Lambor Malngiang who is now all set to contest the upcoming Assembly polls from Nongkrem constituency as an independent candidate has alleged lack of development in the constituency.
Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Malngiang said, “It is sad to see that there are no development activities in the whole constituency.”
Stating that they have been continuously preparing for the election throughout the 5 years, Malngiang added that their idea was to have free education for the underprivileged families since there were large number of people who had to drop out of education institutions as they could not afford education.
In addition, the former MLA and MDC also stressed on the need to set up good colleges in Nongkrem constituency saying it has become a problematic exercise for the students to travel to colleges in the town due to ever increasing traffic jam.
The former MLA also called for creating self-employment avenues since many qualified youths in the constituency worked as farmer. He asked for development of the constituency with proper roads and better electricity supply.
When asked about the Nongkrem constituency which was considered a stronghold for HSPSP, he said that he did not consider anyone strong or weak as people are the best judge.
“Looking at the style and functioning of the MLA, I have nothing much to say but let people give their judgement,” he told reporters.
He further claimed that trends have changed in the constituency in the last ten years and people have their own judgement as to whom they should elect.
The Nongkrem constituency which is bastion for HSPDP, is set to witness a multi-cornered contest between HSPDP’s Ardent Basaiawmoit, NPP’s HS Shylla, Congress’s John F Kharshiing and independent candidate, Lambor Malngiang.
