Missive on graveyard boundaries
SHILLONG: The Laitkor Rngi Dorbar Shnong has found during an inspection that there is no proper fencing to identify the specific borders of different graveyards present in areas of Lum Khlon, Kyntoit Wahkdait and Laitkor Rngi. The Dorbar Shnong has requested all religious leaders in charge of the graveyards to fence their respective areas and clearly mark their boundaries so as to enable clear area identification. The church leaders are urged to execute the same by December.
Zenith opens Damalgre block office
AMPATI: Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma inaugurated the Damalgre Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Block office at Rerapara under South West Garo Hills on December 6. He also laid the base for a suspension bridge over river Ganol at Anggalgre in lower Damalgre. The Minister inaugurated the block office and laid the base for the suspension bridge in the presence of GHADC Chairperson S M Sangma, South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Cyril Darlong Diengdoh, DRDA project Director and Additional Deputy Commissioner H D B Sangma, Damalgre C&RD Block Development Officer A G Momin and a host of other officials. The Damalgre C&RD Block office which will cater to over 149 villages is constructed on land covering 10.71 hectares acquired from the Nokma of Rerapara.
IBSD soon in Meghalaya
SHILLONG: The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), a National Institute of Department of Biotechnology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Meghalaya for operationalising IBSD Meghalaya this month. The IBSD will function from both Shillong and Tura. The main mandate of IBSD is ‘the development of Bioresources and their sustainable use through biotechnological interventions for the socio-economic growth of the north eastern region’.
Base laid for road project
NONGPOH: PHE Minister and local legislator of Umsning Celestine Lyngdoh on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a road project at Umran. The 10-km road will connect Umran with Myrdon Mawtari in Ri Bhoi. It has been sanctioned under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund and will be built at a cost of Rs 2.66 crore. Lyngdoh said altogether 110 km of road projects were implemented in a span of five years during his tenure as MLA. Among other guests present at the function are leaders of Umsning Block Congress Committee, headmen, women and youth leaders of Myrdon area.
