SHILLONG: The perennial problem of traffic jams in Shillong city is far from over and Saturday was another example of how congestion on the road became the order of the day in the city.
Some people travelling in the local taxi said that it took them almost an hour to reach Lumdiengjri from Barik point around 2 pm when traffic jam was at its peak.
The problem of traffic congestion has compounded in the city as people are coming out in hordes for shopping in view of the ensuing Christmas and the situation may turn for the worse in coming days till the Christmas.
Usually, Shillong witnesses heavy traffic jams on Saturdays especially along the route from IGP point to Police Bazar, the main commercial hub of the town.
The city traffic police have come out with new regulations as far as stopping of local taxis and parking of private vehicles in Khyndailad (Police Bazar).
