Cyprus offers to help Assam harness solar energy potential

GUWAHATI: High Commissioner of Cyprus Demetrios Theophylactou called on Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the latter’s official residence here on Saturday and discussed issues to extend areas of mutual interests between the Republic of Cyprus and Assam.
The High Commissioner who is on a two-day tour to Assam met Sonowal as the duo discussed opportunities for collaboration nd cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly sectors like tourism, solar energy, food processing and agriculture.
Demetrios Theophylactou hailed the tourism potential of Assam more particularly the state’s tea tourism, wild-life tourism and heritage tourism and vowed his country’s interests in aligning with Assam for the mutual interests of both Cyprus and Assam.
The High Commissioner informed the Chief Minister of the expertise available with his country in the areas like tourism, solar energy, agriculture and food processing and offered to share with the State under framework of bilateralism. He also informed of various advances made by his country in harnessing solar energy as he offered to share the same with the state for the development of resource base in the State.
Chief Minister Sonowal while informing about the upcoming Global Investors’ Summit in Guwahati scheduled for February 3 and 4 next invited the Cyprus High Commissioner along with industry captains to the summit. Demetrios Theophylactou assured Sonowal that he would do the needful to participate in the summit to strengthen his countries bilateral relations with Assam.
