Special courts to handle POCSO cases

SHILLONG: Special courts for the trial of POCSO cases will be set up in the state.
According to the annual report (2016-17) of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) tabled in the House on Friday, on the initiation of SCPCR and as per the request sent to the Law Department, the High Court of Meghalaya in consultations with the department will set up exclusive courts for trial of POCSO cases.
The report said SCPCR was committed to taking up any issues related to violation of child rights, either on complaints or suo motu, and coordinating with the different agencies of the state government to bring justice to victims.
