SHILLONG: The BJP national general secretary, Ram Madhav, hinted at pre-poll alliance with likeminded entities if the party is not in a position to go it alone in the upcoming Assembly polls.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, the BJP leader said the party is examining the options of pre-poll alliance as well as contesting alone in all the seats.
“We are preparing for both the situations. We are talking to some parties. After assessment, if no alliance is going to happen, then we will be ready to contest in all the seats,” he said.
When asked about any alliance with NPP, Madhav said that he did not want to discuss the matter further.
To a query as to how many seats BJP will win in the upcoming polls, Madhav said along with partners, the party will be in a position to form a stable government in the state.
“There is a scenario for a pre-poll alliance emerging. How it will finally culminate I cannot say right now. But yes, we are having a discussion with some political parties,” he said.
Tickets after PM visit
Madhav said the party will announce tickets after the visit of the Prime Minister.
“We are hoping that a large number of good people will join BJP. After the visit of the Prime Minister, we will start the process of identifying and clearing the names of the candidates for different seats.”
To a query on what he meant by good people from other parties, Madhav said they are those who want good change for the people of Meghalaya and those who are fed up with the corrupt and inept rule of Mukul Sangma.
“They did not have proper alternative before. Today, BJP stands before them as the great hope for Meghalaya. Hence, many are interested to come and support us,” he said.
Questions on clean image
However, when a journalist pointed out the case of Assam BJP Minister
(Himanta Biswa Sarma) who was under CBI scanner, Madhav said, “Charges can be framed against anyone. Every charge will be investigated and I am confident that none of our leaders is involved in any corruption cases.”
A few Meghalaya legislators are expected to join BJP soon though there are questions about their clean image.
Asked whether the party is looking for leaders with a clean image in Meghalaya, Madhav said, “So far, the leaders the party is in touch with do not have bad image.”
To a further question on the matter, he said, “Let them join first and then let us make a judgement.”
Charge sheet against MUA
The BJP leader said the party will come up with a charge sheet against the Congress-led MUA-II government.
In response to a question as to whether there is any particular corruption charge against the chief minister, Madhav said the party will come up with a charge sheet at an appropriate time and at the moment the party is preparing it.
“When we come up with the charge sheet, we will certainly make specific allegations of corruption. I want to make it very clear that we have nothing against an individual. We are against the government lead by Mukul Sangma,” he said.
H also termed as ‘day dreaming’ the claim of chief minister that the Congress will come back to power with more than 40 seats.
