SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) candidate from Mairang, Lawanpynshngain War who is the son of former MLA, late Kitdor Syiem, said that he did not aspire to follow his father’s footsteps but his desire to bring about changes in the constituency prompted him to join politics.
He pointed out that Mairang’s electorate were wise enough to elect a representative who will bring about development in Mairang, which is currently represented by Metbah Lyngdoh.
He added, “Governance is two-way street wherein the representative has to work along with the public and vice versa.”
Asked why he joined NPP, War said that he had confidence in the party although it was still a young party led by president, Conrad Sangma and maintained that NPP would lead the next government in the state.
“The people of the state are yearning to see an NPP-led government to bring about changes to usher in development in the state,” War said.
He expressed concern that the state had a long way to go in terms of education sector, tourism etc. and added that these sectors couldn’t contribute to the development of the state.
