SHILLONG: Students from the different colleges of Shillong have asked Meghalaya Government to clarify over its failure to distribute the “M-Tab” to the Class XII student of the academic session of 2015-2016.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, one of the Class XII students of the 2015-2016 batch, Enlang Sawian said that Class XII students of 2015-2016 had not received the “M-Tab” which is part of the ‘Student Digital Learning Aid Scheme’ of the State Government
“We are extremely concerned since the scheme is for the benefit of the student community. We want to ask the State Government why it has not been able to implement the scheme continuously. We have strong doubts that the Congress has brought the scheme just to woo the voters of the State during elections,” Sawian said.
He added that Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma should understand that the students cannot be fooled every time and they know whom should they elect while casting their votes.
While recalling the RTI filed by the HYC which had revealed the expenditure incurred by the State Government for distribution of the “M-Tab”, he said that the RTI had revealed that there was a misappropriation of nearly Rs 6 crore in the purchase of the “M-Tab” by the State Government.
“We strongly suspect that the funds will be used for the upcoming election,” he alleged.
Sawian said that the student community of the State will soon write to Union Ministry of Human Resource Development to request for instituting a CBI inquiry on this alleged misappropriation of funds in the implementation of the ‘Student Digital Learning Aid Scheme’.
