SHILLONG: The Meghalaya SSA School Teachers Association (MSSASA) central body has issued a deadline till December 20 for the State Government to release their pending salaries and arrears failing which they would file a writ petition in the Court.
The teachers who are demanding the release of their salary pending since the last four months and the release of their eight months’ arrears from July 1, 2016 to February 28, 2017 on Tuesday staged a protest march in the city to press for their demands.
The march which started form Nongthymmai football ground and culminated at additional secretariat parking lot was participated by hundreds of teachers with placards and banners who even asked the School Education and Literacy Minister, Deborah Marak to resign.
Addressing the gathering, MSSASA president Aristotle C Rymbai slammed the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma saying he is busy distributing tablets to students but he is unable to release the salary of the teachers.”
He recalled that teachers from time to time had to come out to the streets to demand their basic rights.
“We have completed our duties as teachers and it is the turn of the government to make sure that our salary is being release so that the teachers will not face any problems,” he said.
