BSNL staff to go on 2-day strike
SHILLONG: All unions and associations of BSNL have asked both executive and non-executive employees of the telecom company to go on a two-day strike on December 12 and 13. The objectives of the protest are to demand a pay revision with effect from January 1, 2017, and opposing formation of a subsidiary tower company. The recommendations of the 3rd PRC, says the employees of a PSU are not eligible for pay revision, if the company had not earned profit during the preceding three years.

Lanong’s book on sixth schedule
SHILLONG: A new legal and historical translated Khasi book on the 6th Schedule of the Constitution of India, titled ‘Bynrap Ynrap Bahynriew’ written by B.M.Lanong, former CEM of KHADC and the only record holder of having won six elections to the KHADC, will be released by Lok Sabha MP Vincent Pala on Thursday at 1 Pm in Assam Kristi Kendra Shillong, where the CEM of KHADC P.N.Syiem will attend as special guest. Other related subjects like Panchayat system, the Instrument of Accession (Dulir Aiti), Annexed Agreement (Dulir Pynsnoh), relevant Constituent Assembly debates on the 6th Schedule (1946-1950) and other valuable studies, all in Khasi language, form part of the translated book.

Pa Togan Sangma remembered on 145th death anniversary
WILLIAMNAGAR: The 145th death anniversary of Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma was observed at the memorial park named after the freedom fighter at Chisobibra, 14 km from here, on Tuesday. The chief executive member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Boston Ch Marak, spoke on the role played by the fighter in winning freedom for the Garos. “Sacrificing one’s life for the cause of others is the greatest love,” he said. Former Director of Art and Culture Dr Julius R Marak spoke at length about how the British troops had invaded Garo Hills and how Togan and his fellow warriors had attacked them.

Buyer-seller meet held under Mission Organic
TURA: A buyers and sellers meet under the state’s Mission Organic Value Chain Development was recently organised at Dikki-Bandi stadium here. Chairperson of Meghalaya Resource and Employment Generation Council Dikkanchi D Shira inaugurated the programme. Mission Organic was launched by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma in December 2014 in South West Garo Hills. The government has so far selected 40,000 hectares of land in different districts for organic farming.
