SHIILONG/NONGPOH: Ri Bhoi Police on Tuesday arrested one KSU leader, Stevenson Kharkrang, who is also the president of Umiam Circle.
Kharkrang was arrested for his involvement in the arson case at Ronghona and Shangbangla earlier on May 27 this year, said
Police Chief Ramesh Singh.
The KSU leader will be produced in the District Court on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the KSU has demanded immediate release of Steven Kharkrang, the president of KSU Umiam circle who was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the anti-railway ruckus.
The union warned the state government against any harassment meted out to Kharkrang during his detention.
In a statement issued here, KSU general secretary, Donald Thabah said the state government decided to stop the railway project in the state after their meeting in July.
He further threatened that the organisation would resort to various ways and means to protect the indigenous communities.
“The organisation will not sit idle and if any agitation erupts in the coming days, the state government will be responsible,” he said.
Thabah questioned why the state government does not arrest drug smugglers and people who steal money from banks and ATMs.
