SHILLONG: Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Shillong on Saturday.
The focal point of the visit is that Modi, after inaugurating the Shillong-Tura road project, will address the public rally called by BJP for 50 minutes setting in motion the election campaign of the party for the 2018 polls.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar said on Thursday that security drill was completed under the supervision of SPG.
As per the programme, the Prime Minister will land at Upper Shillong helipad at 1 pm from Mizoram. Then he will proceed to Sports Training Centre Complex at Polo Grounds and at 1.30 pm, he will unveil the plaque to mark the inauguration of Shillong-Tura road. The programme will last 10 minutes.
Later, he will address the public rally organised by BJP at Ground Number 5 from 1.40 pm to 2.30 pm. Then he will leave for Upper Shillong helipad for his return journey.
BJP hopeful of Modi

Bharatiya Janata Party is optimistic there would be a “BJP and Modi wave” in the state after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit here on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, BJP spokesperson, JA Lyngdoh said leaders of the party from different districts of the state would attend the rally of the Prime Minister at Polo on Saturday.
Modi is scheduled to land in Shillong after 1 pm following which he would proceed to Polo to address “The Rally for Change”.
The BJP leader also claimed that Congress would find it difficult to get even double digits in the upcoming polls.
Another party leader, B Khongwir said volunteers of the party are geared up and there are 20 different committees which will look into different aspects of the Prime Minister’s visit.
He also said they expect a lot of people to attend the rally though ground number 5 where the rally is supposed to be held is very small.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to inaugurate the newly-constructed office of the party from the venue.
