HC rejects bail plea of 19 arrested ACS-APS officers

GUWAHATI: Bail petitions of 19 Assam Civil Service (ACS) and Assam Police Service (APS) officials who were arrested in connection with the ‘job for cash’ scam of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), were rejected by Gauhati High Court on Monday in the interests of ongoing police investigation into the scam.

Those who had applied for bail included Rajorshi Sen Deka, Harshajyoti Borah, Hemanta Saikia, Geetali Doley, Debojit Bora, Rumi Saikia, Jatindra Prasad Baruah, Himangshu Choudhury, Dipak

Khanikar, Kamal Debnath, Sabira Imran, Sunayana Aideo, Amarjit Das, Jyotirmoy Adhikary, Darun Islam Choudhury, and Pallabi Sharma Choudhury.

Meanwhile, the special court here had gen permission to the Assam Police investigating tea probing the APSC job scam to conduct simultaneous investigation of the 23 arrested ACS and APS officers along with the arrested chairman of the APSC Rakesh Paul. The court has ordered the jail authorities to make arrangement for the same.

However, the court had earlier rejected the Assam police’s plea for permission to subject the arrested officials to lie-detector test.
