TURA Winter Youth Festival begins

TURA: The three day ‘Tura Winter Youth Festival’ began at the Dikki Bandi Stadium on Monday showcasing the rich A’chik culture amidst a collage of vibrant colour and youthful energy.

Inaugurating the fest, the deputy commissioner of West Garo Hills Ram Singh said that the festival would usher in peaceful atmosphere ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Singh added that the main objective of the fest was to engage the youth to enhance their skills and display their potential talents.

“The festival will give an opportunity for the people to come together and engage in merriment and spend their moment to celebrate life and spread the message of peace and unity,” he said.

Sub-Divisional Officer, Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Swapnil Tembe spoke about the vast tourism potential prospect in the region and added that he was impressed with the good hospitality of the people in the area. He further invited everyone to come and explore the beautiful place and picnic spots in and around the Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division.

In order to propagate the message of Swacch Bharat, healthy life, fish for economic farming and sustainable agriculture practices stalls were put up and exhibited by various government departments. Home made products, artifacts and food items are also being put on sale by SHGs and entrepreneurs.

The three day festival will include mobile photography contest, karaoke, film screening, futsal, cyclotron, retro and country night, traditional musical instrument competitions, amongst others. The fest will come to a close with performance of local rock bands on December 20.
