TURA: Villagers of Mallangkona under West Khasi Hills have expressed disappointment over the poor service provided by BSNL at Siminaguri since about a year.
A local leader, Anthony M Sangma blamed the negligence of the authorities for the poor service. “The lone BSNL tower located at Siminaguri village has failed to cater to the subscribers in the area,” Sangma said. He alleged that the authorities have failed to rectify the problem despite repeated complaints. “Earlier, we were happy that the tower was set up in the area and many people from Meghalaya and even Assam had availed of connections. However, our joy was short-lived as the tower has remained non-functional for over a year now,” he said. The tower is not equipped with a proper generator to keep it running during power cuts and completely shuts down whenever electricity is cut off.
“The old generator kept for the purpose is damaged and unusable and authorities have not done anything to replace it with a new one,” Sangma claimed.
