SHILLONG: The state government on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for three power plants which will use renewable technology to generate 120MW.
The company, M/s S Renew Joule Private Limited, will develop the projects at Byrnihat, Mendipathar and Ampati on build, own and operate basis.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma expressed optimism that the initiative will unleash a new positive energy in the power sector and revolutionize power generation in the region.
According to Sangma, the initiative would also avoid expenditure for transmission lines.
On the other hand, Director of Renew Joule, Manoj Sompura, said the first unit at Byrnihat (24 mw) will be commissioned in April 2018 and the construction for the project will start in the first week of January.
Sompura pointed out that the new technology requires limited land and only around 5 acres are needed to develop the project, which will provide uninterrupted power supply.
“We decided to come here as Meghalaya is a peaceful place,” he said.
Meanwhile, officials from the company said that the technology did not succeed earlier as computers and sensors were not updated.
