Base laid for indoor stadium

SHILLONG: Urban affairs minister, Ronnie V. Lyngdoh laid the foundation stone for the Rs 22.75 crore indoor stadium at Mawbynna in the Pomlakrai area, about 16km away fromthe city, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Lyngdoh stressed on the need for cooperation with stakeholders in orderto make the initiative a success.
“The indoor stadium is a gift to the sportspersons and the people of Pomlakrai Pyllun,” he said.
The North Eastern Council and state government have jointly taken up the venture and the time for completion of the project is two years.
In her speech, sports and youth affairs director, Matsiewdor War Nongbri commended the initiative taken by the Dorbar Shnong under Pomlakrai Dorbar Pyllun to make land available for the stadium.
Nongbri said the indoor pitch size would be 50m x 24m. Artificial lights will be installed on the indoor pitch as per the requirement for the indoor games.
