Aluminium roofing ends the era of CGI sheets

SHILLONG: Aluminium sheet manufacturers have claimed that they do not use scraps and other metals to produce high quality sheets as compared to CGI sheets and other metal sheets. The initiative to distribute aluminium sheets was launched under the Chief Minister’s Housing Assistance Programme on December 21.
Manufacturers said an aluminium sheet does not rust and hence the longevity of a roof made is more than 50 years and hardly requires any maintenance. It is also cooler in summer as compared to CGI sheets and cuts heat loss in winter.

Body found in Wahumkhrah

SHILLONG: A body was recovered from the Wahumkhrah, 4th Furlong, on Wednesday.
The body of Lambhalang L. Mawphlang from Pynthorbah was kept at Civil Hospital morgue and relatives of the deceased later identified it. Police said investigation shows Mawphlang was an alcoholic.

Corporates organise Christmas programmes

SHILLONG: Gionee and Best Cement recently organised programmes as part of the Christmas celebrations in the city.

Illegal liquor recovered in WKH

NONGSTOIN: Illegal liquor was found by the village authorities of Tiehsaw Khyllem, West Khasi Hills on December 23.
Headman Drinly Marngar called up Nongstoin Police Station and informed about the recovered IMFL. 21packets and each packet containing 5litre of local liquor, 6packets each half litre, 6 case of beer, two cases of foreign liquor, and other 66 loose bottles of foreign liquor were seized from the possession of David Sohshang (30) and Tilin Marngar (52), the police said. In this connection, a non-FIR case registered by the Police.

Mentally challenged man missing

TURA: A mentally challenged man from Chibra Agal in West Garo Hills has gone missing from his residence said a delayed report by family members.
Grewin A Sangma (36), son of Bison R Marak and Mingji Sangma has been missing since the morning of December 25, while all his family members had gone to attend a Church service. A search was conducted after Sangma went missing, where it was learnt that he was last seen in Jengjal area. An FIR was filed at Rongram Police Outpost. Anyone having information about the missing person has been urged to contact the nearest police station or the family at phone numbers- 9615936316 and 8787641833.

State-level conference on human trafficking for cops

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Police will organise a state-level conference on human trafficking on Friday at the Conference Hall of the DGP office.
The conference, which is for field officers of different ranks, will be from 10:30am to 4pm and aims to heighten awareness and sensitivity of police personnel in human trafficking cases in reference to commercial sexual exploitation, forced labour, forced marriage and to obtain an organised crime perspective to tackle and investigate such cases.
