GUWAHATI:  Bodies of five youths who had returned from a picnic on Wednesday, were recovered from inside a locked vehicle at Galdighala village in Mukalmuwa area of Nalbari district of Assam on Thursday morning.

Police informed the youth had spent the night inside the locked vehicle with a mini diesel-run generator running to keep the music system on. They were identified as: Padum Koibarta, Sriman Koibarta, Narayan Koibarta, Bikash Koibarta and Gautom Koibarta.

The police official said prima facie the cause of death appeared suffocation as a diesel-run mini-generator was operating inside the vehicle with all windows and doors shut. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the actual cause of death.

The vehicle was parked in the area since Wednesday evening after about a group of 20-22 local youths had returned from a picnic at Bhutan Chauki area.

Four of the youths who had gone on the picnic had decided to stay inside the vehicle as a tyre had deflated and it was dark to change the tyre. A 12-year-old boy of the area had joined the youths inside the vehicle on hearing loud music being played inside.

The local villagers on Thursday morning noticed that music continued to play inside the vehicle with the doors and windows shut. On checking inside the vehicle from outside they found the boys lying in unconscious condition inside the vehicle. All five were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
