Tura: BJP’s national president Amit Shah on Saturday went ballistic against Meghalaya chief minister and Congress leader, Mukul Sangma, in his maiden election campaign rally in poll- bound Meghalaya at Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills.

Hitting out at Mukul, the BJP president Shah asked the people to make him accountable for crores of funds, which were released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for development of the state.

He said that during Congress rule in the Centre, the state of Meghalaya was accorded Rs 5817 crore in the 13th Finance Commission but during Modi’s rule in the 14th finance commission Meghalaya was given Rs 25413 cr.

“Ask Mukul, what has he done with over Rs 25000 crore funds, which were meant for the development of the state. Modi has given topmost priority for development of Northeastern region which is the reason that the funds were increased but it is shocking that nothing has happened in Meghalaya”, Shah said.

He asked the people to question Mukul and Congress government and make them accountable and answerable for the largescale corruption, which has hindered development.

“Strengthen Modi and the BJP party in the upcoming election and we promise to give back Meghalaya an accelerated growth and development”, he appealed to the people assuring that Meghalaya would be made a model state in the next five years, wherein there will be development for all sections of the society.

“The government of India is asking for project completion certificate but Meghalaya has failed to give as they have done nothing and have engaged themselves in loot and corruption”, he alleged.

A crowd of over 20000 attended the rally, where all top BJP functionaries including Assam cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and union tourism minister K.J Alphons asserted that BJP would form a government that would be acceptable to all. They also asked the electorates not to fall prey to the Congress misinformation campaign that BJP was anti-Christian and anti-minorities.

Shah began his 25-minute speech by shouting Bharat Mata ki jai slogan, which received a thunderous applause. “Modi should hear the loud noise from Meghalaya that BJP would form the next government in 2018 in your state”, he said.

He repeatedly made scatting attack on Mukul asking the people to wipe out Congress rule from Meghalaya. “If Congress loses this election it would mean that BJP is finally at the service of the people of Meghalaya, where development will usher in an era of growth”, he added.
