SHILLONG/WILLIAMNAGAR: The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) organised a hands-on demonstration of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trial (VVPAT) for political parties at the Conference Hall of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner’s office.
CEO Frederick Kharkongor said that the functioning of the EVM and VVPAT was explained to the parties to instill confidence on transparency and to address their doubts. He added that the VVPATs awareness programmes will be conducted in all the districts.
Representatives from major political parties like Congress, BJP, NCP and UDP were present.
During the demonstration programme, the political parties were told that voters cannot make frivolous claims and certain procedures will have to be followed if the machine suffers any malfunction.
Meanwhile, an awareness programme on EVM and VVPAT was also organised in East Garo Hills on Friday.
Deputy Commissioner (Election), Ram Kumar has organised the one-day hands-on awareness programme at the Conference Hall of the DC’s office in Williamnagar where police officers and leaders from different political parties participated.
The programme was organised with a view to provide hands-on and quality awareness to the officers of the Goverment departments as well as the political parties ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections.
During the programme, a detailed functioning of the EVM and VVPAT was presented by the DC, which was followed by a practical session on the functioning of various components of EVM.
