GUWAHATI: A hide out of the banned United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) was busted by the security forces near Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve in South Arunachal Pradesh bordering Myanmar on Friday night.

Jairampur Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of DAO division conducted successful operations near Namdapha Reserve forest in the night of Jan 5 2018 resulting in destruction of a ULFA (I) temporary hideout, a defence source informed.

The forces have mounted vigil in view of the approaching Republic Day apprehending attempts by the separatist groups to create trouble and terror.

The operation was launched based on specific intelligence about presence of ULFA-I cadres trying to terrorise and carry out extortion in Miao revenue circle of Arunachal Pradesh. The Jairampur battalion swiftly launched an operation and surrounded the temporary hideout of the militants and in subsequent search recovered blank extortion notes, opium and other administrative stores from the area. The cadres had been using the hideout as place of transit and had been terrorising and carrying out extortion from villagers of Miao circle.

The security forces have been carrying out aggressive operations in South Arunachal Pradesh and this action has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area.
