Saleng to take over as new state NCP chief

SHILLONG: Independent legislator Saleng Sangma is set to be appointed as the new NCP state president.
Earlier, the NCP central leaders had removed Sanbor Shullai from the post since he had switched his allegiance to BJP.
Recently, working president Vijay Raj and Sangma met central NCP leaders in Delhi to apprise them of the political situation in the state in the run-up to the polls.
When contacted, Sangma said on Sunday that the appointment will be effected within a few days.
Sangma also said he will quit the post of MLA either on Wednesday or Thursday.
Sangma had contested and won on Congress ticket from Dalamgiri in 2008 but the party did not give him ticket in 2013 that compelled him to contest and win as Independent from Gambegre.
The South Tura Independent legislator John Leslee Sangma will also join NCP.
