SHILLONG: Public rallies held by political parties are mainly intended to be shows of strength and that is all the more true in election season. The United Democratic Party’s (UDP) rally to be held in Malki on Thursday will expectedly draw a crowd of 20,000 people.
The NPP had earlier claimed that a crowd of over 10,000 people attended its rally held in Polo followed by the BJP’s rally attended by around 10,000 people in which the star attraction was the Prime Minister himself. UDP leader Bindo M Lanong said the party will introduce its candidates from different constituencies at the rally besides announcing a slew of flagship programmes.
“Top leaders will speak at the rally,” Lanong said.
He further informed that the UDP is fielding candidates from 34 constituencies in the upcoming elections.
It deserves mention that the party has forged a pre-poll alliance with the Hill State People’s Democratic Party in the Khasi Hills region while it is tied in a similar alliance with the Garo National Council in Garo Hills.
