SHILLONG: All India Mahila Congress chief, Sushmita Deb has termed the desertion of respective parties by some MLAs in Meghalaya to join BJP as a clear case of opportunism.

It may be mentioned that so far, four MLAs including AL Hek, Sanbor Shullai, Justine Dkhar and Robinus Syngkon has joined the BJP.

Talking to media persons here in Shillong, Deb said that BJP had used money and muscle power to take away people to their camp in   Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and the same thing had happened here in Meghalaya.

“There are opportunists in every political party and it is a clear case of opportunism,” she said.

She said that people who left their party to join BJP would regret their decision once the real agenda of BJP would unfold.

“Most of the people in Assam including Himanta Biswa Sarma was regretting but they could not say openly out   of embarrassment and people who left here would also meet the same fate,” she told reporters

On the other hand, Shillong MP, Vincent Pala criticized the   Union Minister, KJ Alphonse for using Central Government money for party benefits in the state.

He made the statement with regards to the recent announcement of Alphonse for a Rs 70 crore funds to develop churches here for tourism purpose.

“They want to misuse Government money and buy people here but such tactics will not have any impact here,” Pala said.

Echoing similar views, Deb quoted a song “Money can’t buy love” saying, “Giving money to a Church is one-time thing but security of each and every citizens of the country is a long term thing which BJP cannot do.

“ABVP activists insisted on doing a Hindu puja in a Christian institution in Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh and so what is the point for them to give money for repairing of churches here,” she said
