SHILLONG: A case has been registered by the police department as per the order passed by the Court against two local activists who filed an FIR against BJP member Sanbor Shullai on allegations of nepotism.

Police have registered a case against the activists – Agnes Kharshiing, president of Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) and Angela Rangad, member of Thma U Rangli (TUR) — under Sections 182 and 500 IPC.

Section 182 relates to false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to seek injury against another person while Section 500 relates to criminal defamation.

The activists alleged that Shullai had indulged in nepotism in appointment of various posts in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

Shullai, who was inducted into the BJP recently, had filed a counter FIR against Kharshiing and Rangad stating that the employees were recruited as per rules and he had no role to play in the selection process.

He had mentioned in the counter FIR that he had no role to play in the selection process and argued that the policy to question only the appointment of his near and dear ones was highly vindictive.
