SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party has sensed a political opportunity for its alliance with HSPDP and Garo National Council following the waning influence of Congress in the state.
UDP president, Donkupar Roy told reporters that the regional alliance will form the next government. “The Congress is on a down swing whereas our alliance has shown an upward trend,” he said, adding that UDP was fielding “good candidates who will face the 2018 Assembly elections.
With the UDP forging an alliance with HSPDP and GNC as well as putting up candidates in Garo Hills, Roy observed that the party would fare well in Garo Hills region.
Highlighting the priorities, Roy said the regional alliance would give importance to development in the road and power sectors besides the contentious issue of coal and limestone mining.
