SHILLONG: Former Khun Hynnewtrap National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MLA, Lambor Malngiang who is now contesting the upcoming polls as an independent candidate from Nongkrem constituency, has asserted that the independent MLAs will play a major role in the formation of the new government here in the state which goes to polls shortly.

Speaking to reporters after donating an ambulance to Nongkrem constituency, Malngiang predicted that Meghalaya would see a fractured mandate this time and the role of the independent MLAs would be the most important though 13 independent MLAs elected in 2013 polls could not play a major role in formation of the government then.

Meanwhile, he also slammed the regional parties saying the regional forces would not make much of an impact in the polls while adding that the same political parties who are talking about regional force were separated in the last elections.

Maintaining that the people want change, he added that people now don’t look at the party of the candidates but they look for a person who can serve them and can help them in times of crisis.

Castigating BJP, he said that BJP has a hidden agenda of “Ghar Wapsi” and they are trying to change the democratic system of the state through VHP and RSS.

“We will not allow such communal forces to participate in the state,” he told reporters.

He also felt that most of the regional parties in the state are working hand in glove with the BJP be it NPP or United Democratic Party (UDP) which is a part of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) formed by the BJP.

Earlier, he hoped that the ambulance would help people in many ways especially in times of emergencies when people are required to be taken to the medical facility at the earliest.
