SHILLONG: Former Meghalaya Police officer Anjan Chakraborty has petitioned the Meghalaya DGP alleging that he was implicated in a fake case and was kept in police custody illegally.
In a letter to the DGP, Chakraborty said last April, he met the Commissioner of police in Kolkata and requested for a job on contractual basis after which he was verbally asked to join the Cyber Crime cell at Lalbazaar in Kolkata.
According to Chakraborty, on July 14 last year, two police officers came to his residence and one of them introduced himself as Saptarshi Bose, DSP of STF and he was taken to STF O/C chamber where he was asked to do some illegal work against the Central government department and was later assaulted after he refused to do so.
He added that he was in Shillong on August 4 to submit his life certificate as Shillong treasury for his pension when he was arrested from SBI Bank evening branch while the seizure list was prepared elsewhere and even a fake ID card of the Assistant Commissioner, Kolkata, was found with him as mentioned by the police.
“I believe the fake ID card was prepared by Saptarshi Bose,” he said, adding that the complainant in the FIR claimed that he had introduced himself as DSP/CBI though the fake ID card was of Kolkata police.
Quoting an RTI report from the SP office in Itanagar, he said they did not receive any official correspondence from Kolkata police for arresting the accused person. Besides, there was no official intimation from STF, Kolkata.
He also claimed that the then OC of Sadar Police station registered three fake cases against him under the direction of the then SP and declared him as an absconder but Meghalaya police did not take any action and he was falsely kept in police custody for 26 days.
